The hallways and classrooms of Loretto and Rosary Halls were alive with Class of 1980 alumnae on July 8 as over 150 women, spouses, significant others and kids toured the former Academy, met old friends, relived old memories and recounted stories of days and detentions gone by with Sister Rita and Sister Lourdette, who were also in attendance. Thankfully, no detentions were handed out during the evening!
The self-guided tour/open house on Friday July 8, 2005 was the opening leg of a three-event weekend. The gathering started in the Social Room where 4 or 5 alumnae were spotted wearing their plaid uniform skirts as they browsed through memorabilia from 25 years ago. A list of open rooms/areas was handed out so alums could tour on their own.
Reunion 2005 - Friday Girl's Night Out at Trocadero
After touring the Academy, over 75 women proceeded to enjoy a beautiful summer Girl's Night Out on the outdoor patio of the east side's Trocadero. After much conversation, food and a few cosmopolitans, the gathering broke up about midnight with exception of the few who didn't turn into pumpkins and stayed late to hvce a champagne toast to the next 25 years!
The main event on Saturday evening July 9 was held at Tangerine - a dance and dessert club downtown on Milwaukee Street housed in a turn-of-the-century building with a 70's retro tangerine decor - a perfect fit for all of us who grew up in the 70's. The club's front windows and door opened onto the sidewalk cafe' tables where many classmates gathered to enjoy the beautiful, warm summer evening. Heavy appetizers and food stations were the fare for the evening and provided and environment for mingling and conversation. Each alum also received a specially designed ceramic ornament as a remembrance of the weekend. The ornament pictured the Grotto and the inscription - "SMA Class of 1980 - 25 years -Together Again. Alums and guests alike wore name tags showing the alum's graduation picture.
